While many people are aware that a few creatures, whales in particular, have been known to spontaneously explode after death due to a build-up of methane gas caused by decomposition, very few will remember the near-famous exploding whale that damaged property in 1970.
The dead Sperm whale washed onto shore in Oregon, and local authorities pondered long and hard on the problem of how to dispose of the huge carcass before coming up with a “genius” plan…They loaded the whale carcass with dynamite and set it off.
The resulting explosion did effectively remove the dead whale’s body…and scatter it all over the town and it’s residents.
